Lovely day it’s quite a mid summer’s day. Had a bath in hospital and feel a bit better

Do we find out what happened to him? Why he is in hospital etc?
Thanks for doing this blog. It’s absolutely brilliant. Real insight.

Thanks for your kind comments and support. It’s really difficult to say what happened. He never writes about what’s wrong with him during his stay in hospital. Although he did say “I don’t know what is the matter with me.” At a guess he is admitted to hospital after a period of German shelling he had also recently lost his best pal so maybe he was suffering from depression and/or shell shock?

Yes, I wondered if it was some form of shellshock too. He says he’s in Savy, which was shelled very heavily during the spring of 1917 by the German forces.
I also wondered also if it was mild hypothermia in addition to the trauma of losing his best friend and all the shelling, given he was mentioning the cold temperatures and snow.
